Today I had Rick aboard “It Aint Luck” and he was nice enough as always to invite Harvey who fishes with me from time to time for some more National Geographic like Striped Bass fishing. Right away on the ride to the boat this morning the sight of the sun was not so appealing to me. After the last 3 days of howling NE winds and what I call “Grey and Grump” conditions you kind of get used to it and to be honest it really only makes the fishing that much better. We shoved off early in hopes to catch the tide and beat the sun in hopes of seeing the activity I had the days prior. We arrived on scene to not only prefect flat conditions with no wind but bass all around us feeding on herring. Now let me get something straight right away…nothing gets me more chubbed then seeing bass or tuna feeding on big bait its just AWESOME. You know when you see 8”-10” herring flying thru the air
something big is definitely right behind that bait which is about to lose its life. Well this went on from 6am until about 7am when the sun got up higher but I would have to say in my entire guiding career I have never witnessed such an amazing act of ravage feeding by Striped Bass EVER. They had these baitfish pinned up and all the fish we saw were well over 30lbs with some well over 40lbs. For a solid hour Rick and Harvey hammered on fish just about every cast. Once this activity started to diminish some we decided to work the rocks nearby and was rewarded with a few more “stud” bass. Overall today was one of the best days I’ve had for not only numbers but for BIG fish on light tackle. Great work guys and I will never forget the carnage we witnessed at sunrise. SICK DAY BOYS!
