Sunday’s trip was 3 fly anglers and after Saturdays fishing with all the boat traffic I said lets try something different. These guys are all good friends and plan a fishing trip to get together and chase fish and have fun. So we ran a bit further then I wanted to but it was worth it as the reports I was getting seemed far better each time. We met at 5:00am and made the run in FAC conditions to the fishing grounds. Once again when you have flat conditions with bright sun I always feel its going to make the fishing for surface feeding fish tough and it usually does but today was an exception. Well after arriving and just smelling the bait in the air miles from where we stopped we knew it was going to be a freak show for certain. Gulls, terns, gannets and shearwaters and any other type of bird were cruising around waiting for the fish to push the bait up for a free meal.
On the first drift it was our first triple hook up and all anglers are fly fishing so it was interesting to say the least. We basically stayed in this one area for 3 hours casting flies to Striped Bass ass up to 20lbs and Gorilla Bluefish anywhere from 8-12lbs. This action was steady until the tide slowed down when we decided to run into the shoreline to fish the boulders which was slower but had a slow pick of smaller fish to keep everyone happy. Overall a wonderful day of fly fishing and these guys had a blast and couldn’t have had better conditions for it. Thanks Winn, Sean, and Paul for a wonderful day and I look forward to having you guys back in September to chase Albies 🙂
