The Skip Jack Tuna aka as "mushmouth" or "skippy" have been found cruising the waters of Rhode Island Sound for the last 5 years. This true tuna ia truly the strongest fighter we get inshore hands down. These small fish range from 6-15lb and really tear it up on any light tackle spinning rod or fly rods. We highly recommend having your terminal knots and rigging checked before casting to schools of these fish. Huge schools set up in what looks like a white water blood bath as these fish feed in lines. They push the bait to the surface then push through it like small freight trains. These fish are my favorite fish inshore to pursue and I always look forward to their return each summer. We recommend a 7ft spinning rod with a good spinning reel with a good drag on it loaded with 12lb test mono. A good drag is imperative as these small tuna will test it out for sure. Blistering runs over 100+yards are not uncommon from the larger fish. Fly rodder should have 9-10wts rigged with intermediate lines or full sinking lines in the 300-400 grain area. Leaders should be all fluorocarbon in the 12-15lb range.
